EASTER SUNDAY SERVICES

Sunday, April 21, 2019

9am Easter Vigil of Liturgy and Light

The Easter Vigil service is held in the hours of darkness between sunset on Holy Saturday and sunrise on Easter Day. It is the first celebration of Easter commemorating the end of the long vigil the original Christ followers kept from his death and burial on Good Friday to His resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Epworth’s 9am service is a modification of the Easter Vigil Service. This will be a service that starts in quiet and darkness and builds to the first celebration of Holy Communion post resurrection. The service will not have a choir; simply hymns, trumpet and time for reflection and celebration. This is the first time the Easter Alleluia will be sung in the Easter season. The word "Alleluia" or "Hallelujah" (from Hebrew הללו יה) literally means "Praise ye Yah", a shorted form of "Praise Yahweh" or Praise the Lord. This service will be strictly one hour long and will include candlelight and simultaneous translation of the sermon into Spanish using headsets. Come and celebrate the quiet power of resurrection and praise.

11am Easter Worship Celebration

This service is all about worshiping God through music. It combines the gifts of Epworth Celebrate team and Epworth Chancel Choir, adding a 4-part brass section. Several of the selections for this service are composed by Eric Paździora, Epworth’s Organist/ Contemporary Music Director who recently graduated from UMD with a Doctorate in Composition and brings a 15th century Latin hymn arrangement and a new version of Up from The Grave. This service will be blended, celebratory, full of music and opportunity to hear familiar Easter hymns. It will contain a sermon focused on the power of Resurrection. This service will last more than an hour and will include simultaneous translation of the sermon into Spanish using headsets.

To be a church of the community that invites, connects, disciples, and sends out people for Christ as the Holy Spirit transforms hearts, lives and communities.
